Rancho Los Cerritos Foundation Horticultural Intern

  • Explore a career in horticulture with this nine month internship at Rancho Los Cerritos Historic Site, Long Beach, California September 2008.
  • Position provides $15 hour and 15-16 hours per week from September 2008-June 2009.
  • Student will have opportunities to experience landscape restoration work and develop garden-related educational activities for children.

UCSC Farm and Garden's Apprenticeship in Ecological Horticulture

  • Want to learn how to plant seeds of change?  Attend a six-month training course in organic gardening and small-scale sustainable farming at the UCSC Farm and Garden Apprenticeship, Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems.
  • This full-time program is held at the 25-acre Farm and 3-acre Alan Chadwick Garden on the UC Santa Cruz campus.  The apprenticeship course includes classroom instruction, in-field training, and hands-on experience in the gardens, greenhouses, orchards, fields, and marketing outlets.

Chino Basin Water Conservation District Paid Internship

  • The Intern will work on multiple Chino Basin Water Conservation District projects located at the District office, demonstration garden, Wilderness Park and remote percolation basins.  Projects may require development and implementation of water conserving landscape plans incorporating landscape design, soils analysis, development of demolition plan, creation of a planting plan, personal field work planting, and any or all of the following: coordinating with contractors, design and installation of an efficient irrigation system, creation of a landscape maintenance plan and, with guidance, development and monitoring of the special project budget. 

  • The Intern will also support ongoing Chino Basin Water Conservation District activities such as landscape irrigation audits, recycled water connections, and other water conservation projects as assigned, including but not limited to:  gardening, facility maintenance, site cleanup, project management and general administrative support.

  • Under general supervision and working with others, the Intern will enhance his/her education and knowledge of landscape design, drought tolerant, native and CA Friendly plants, irrigation system design, basin operations and maintenance, and landscape irrigation auditing.

Associate Program Director

  • We are seeking an experienced, senior manager to join our Sustainable Agriculture Program as the Associate Program Director.   This position will report to the Director of Sustainable Agriculture, helping to guide and grow the program.  As most of our work takes place in the Central Valley, we will consider candidates who are interested in working out of a Sacramento, Fresno, or Modesto office, and who would be willing to commute to our San Francisco office once or twice per week.   Candidates should have applied knowledge and on-the-ground experience working with irrigated agriculture preferably in California in addition to 5 or more years experience in a senior management position with supervisory responsibilities.

Internships in Organic Agriculture

  • GOCA, Inc. is an organic certifier in Temecula, California. Charlie Heermans, the founder, has conducted seminars at Cal-Poly for the past few years on Organic Agriculture. For the past year we have been developing systems to improve the ease and accessibility of organic certification. We are looking for long term relationships with the students and Cal Poly to promote and develop sustainable agriculture. Dole Nutrition Institute 2008 Summer Internships

  • DNI is a research and education organization founded by Dole Food Company Chairman, David H. San Diego County Water Authority

  • The San Diego County Water Authority has established an internship program for students to work with local water agencies in the area of water conservation.  Pending our district’s board approval later this month, the program will be administered through Cuyamaca College. R&D Summer Intern Program at Dow AgroSciences

  • Dow AgroSciences has positions available for students seeking summer internship opportunities. These opportunities are full-time positions available from May until August. Applicable majors would include:

Helena Internship Program

  • This is designed to be a 1-4 year training program.  Ideally, a student would start after the completion of his or her freshman year, and continue on, each summer, till graduation.  The purpose of the program is to provide students with an opportunity to learn more about Production Agriculture and the Ag Chem/Fertilizer/Seed Industry.  During the Spring and Summers programs students are placed in a branch under the guidance of a certified PCA.  At the end of each summer, interns return to school with a summer's worth of practical, hands-on field experience.  Each summer's experience builds on the previous one.   For more information contact Randy Davis, Internship Program Administrator.  Phone: (559)779-0280.

2008 Paid Summer Gardening Internship

  • The Arboretum at Flagstaff has two 40 hour per week positions available.
  • The Garden Interns are involved in the day-to-day maintenance of the Arboretum gardens.  Under direction of the garden staff, the interns will undertake his or her own long-term garden project, which includes creating and following a project budget, garden design and installation, and developing visitor interpretation.
  • College credit may be available.  This is a 4 month internship,specific dates are flexible but generally the position runs from May through August.
  • Compensation is $9.00 per hour.  A monthly housing stipend is available, and on site housing can be arranged.

Field Scout/Assistant Agronomist

  • J. G. Boswell Company California Ranching Division has a summer internship available.
  • Intern will monitor insects in cotton, processing tomatoes, and other various crops.  Monitor plant development and nutrition through field observations, plant mapping, petiole sampling and soil sampling.  Assist in data collection for various agronomic field trials.
  • Prefer college student with ag background who is pursuing a career in production agriculture.  Position could lead to eventual full time employment.

Plant Records Intern

 

  • Descanso Gardens is looking to fill a part time intern position for our Plant Records department. The intern will work approximately 20 hours per week and the position is expected to last for one year.
  • The successful candidate will be given the ability to acquire valuable field experience  (necessary for a current student), who is either enrolled in or has completed courses in a Horticulture, Botany, Landscape Design or related area of study with an accredited college or university. 
  • The position is also open to recent graduates with a degree or certificate in the one of the previously mentioned courses of study, and will allow for a thorough opportunity of training within a structured and “hands-on” program.
  • The scope for the practical training/internship includes, but is not limited to, the following activities: (1) varied horticulture maintenance activities; (2) irrigation repair; (3) plant record keeping including database updates; (4) field research assistance; (5) job related duties as assigned.

Summer Internship

  • S. Beckley and Associates is recruiting for three summer intern positions for Crop Data Management Systems, Inc. (CDMS) in Marysville, CA.
  • Seeking students with agronomy, crop/plant science, entomology and related majors for the positions to assist in a crop management software development program.
  • Candidates should have a basic understanding of crop production and plant protection products.
  • Job duties will be converting pesticide label language regarding growth stages and other terms to a common data base. 
  • Positions available from June to September - will work with students to accommodate school schedule.
