Supporting Education

For the past 10 years, our region has experienced more growth than any other area in California. From the economic impact to the influx of new homebuyers and families, the community at-large has been a national model for providing examples on the right way to grow. This transformation has significantly impacted education and we are now training more teachers than at any other time in California history.

I want to take a few moments to make all of you aware of an important piece of legislation on the upcoming November ballot. Proposition 47 is a comprehensive bond measure, designed to support the construction of new facilities for all levels of education in California (K-12, community colleges, the University of California and The California State University). Every one of our regional educational institutions (Cal Poly Pomona, Mt. San Antonio College, the UC systems as well as your local K-12 school district) would receive funds from Proposition 47. At the end of the day, every dollar from Prop. 47 would enhance the education of all of California's students. Opponents have argued that taking on more bond debt could harm the state's finances.

As a concerned member of the community, I encourage you to learn about this significant measure. The number of students in K-12 and higher education continues to increase dramatically, posing many challenges in funding all levels of education. Each of us has a responsibility to understand those challenges so we can make decisions in the best interest of our state and our community.
