The unique group of letters and numbers given to each book in the library according to its subject matter. The book's call number is usually located on its spine or front cover. The call number indicates where the book is located in the library.
The place you go to check out, place a hold, return, renew, and pay fines on library materials. Circulation is located on the fourth floor of the library.
A "citation" usually contains the title, author, and pertinent publication information of cited books and journal articles.
All public photocopiers and printers use a “COPY CARD” which may be purchased at the self-service machines located on the fourth and sixth floors of the library. The initial plastic card costs $1.00, which includes the cost of the card as well as a $.50 copy credit. Additional copy credit may be added to the original card as needed.
An electronic collection of organized information. Many databases contain the full text of articles. Some databases only give you the author, title, and publication information and frequently an abstract which summarizes the main ideas of an article. After you obtain the citation to an article, consult the Library Catalog to determine if the periodical is available at the Cal Poly Pomona Library or select the SFX button to determine if the article is available full text online.
If the Cal Poly Pomona Library does not have a particular journal or book which you need, you may request it online or at Document Delivery located on the fourth floor of the library. The Document Delivery staff will attempt to borrow the material for you from another library.
The date by which Library materials must be returned to the Library. If books are returned late, you must pay a fine.
The amount of money you owe if books or other library materials are returned late.
A request to borrow a book which another person has checked out. When the book is returned to the library, the Circulation staff will notify you and will hold the book for you for 10 days.
The Library Catalog provides online access to book and journal titles owned by the library. You may search by author, title, subject, call number, keyword, or child subject (for the Juvenile collection). You may also search the Library Catalog for reserve items, periodical titles, and sound recording or videos. The Library Catalog is available on the Library home page at http://www.csupomona.edu/library/.
Library personal identification number. Your library PIN is needed for any transactions in the library and to logon to databases accessed from the Library home page. For assistance with your library PIN go to Circulation.
A comprehensive catalog of library records from selected California university and public libraries. You can request any items which Cal Poly Pomona does not own via the Library Catalog. You can check out LINK+ requested materials at Circulation.

Library books and materials not returned by the due date are considered late and overdue. You will be charged a fine on any overdue material.
A magazine, journal, or newspaper published on a continuing basis, such as weekly, monthly, or quarterly. All periodicals are located on the fourth floor of the Library, arranged by call number and may be checked out at Circulation.
Librarians are on duty at the Reference Desk, located on the sixth floor, to assist you in finding the material or information you need. Reference books may be used to find information on a subject. Because many people refer to these books, they may not be checked out. Dictionaries, encyclopedias, indexes, and almanacs are examples of reference books.
If you wish to continue using a book beyond its due date, you may bring it to Circulation and check it out again. If no one has a hold on the book, you will receive a new due date. You may also renew books online by selecting “My Library Account” from the Library Catalog menu.
Faculty frequently place supplementary class material in the Reserve area on the fourth floor. You may check out this material for a limited period of time, ranging from two hours to one week, at Circulation. Fines on reserve materials are high, so you should be careful to note both the time and the date they are due. Select "Course Reserves" from the Library Catalog menu to search for reserve materials.
A searching tool which allows you to search up to eight databases and/or catalogs at the same time.
Stands for Special Effects. If the database you are searching does not have an article available full text, you may click on the SFX button to determine if your article is available full text in another database.
