Course Description |
Stress theory, stress physiology, social, gender, and ethnic influences on stress reactivity, health consequences of stress and stress management methods. 4 hours lecture/discussion. Interdisciplinary GE Synthesis course for Sub-area B4 or D4. |

Course Objectives |
My main goal for you is that by the end of the quarter, you’ll be able to handle stress effectively and appropriately. Specific objectives are: 1. Clarify and express personal ideas and opinions pertaining to stress management and emotional health issues (Discussions). 2. Identify current stressors, your emotional and physical reactions, and effective ways to deal with those stressors (Stress Journal). 3. Identify a variety of physiological and psychological aspects pertaining to stress (Lectures & Exams). |

Course Requirements |
Lectures: You'll listen to two lectures of the beginning of each week and follow along with the corresponding lecture notes. Discussions: After listening to the lectures each week, you'll express your ideas and opinions in response to a set of questions from the instructor; Each week, write at least one full paragraph (at least 4 sentences) free from grammatical errors for each question asked, include examples to substantiate your opinions, respond to all of the questions, and post your responses by the due dates. Stress Journal: You'll choose one category on which to focus for each week; Incorporate all techniques listed within that category and respond to questions at the end of the week. Midterm & Final Exams: You'll take the exams on your computer at home (or in a computer lab on campus). Although the exams are not proctored, they are closed-note!! |
