The Division of Student Affairs at Cal Poly Pomona, as a whole and as committed individuals, strives for excellence through a student-centered philosophy which emphasizes mentoring, modeling of positive behavior, and innovative thinking. To inspire and sustain us in these efforts, and provide focus and meaning to our work, we adopt these divisional themes and values as the common thread which binds us. Our themes and values transcend individual job descriptions and departmental mission statements, and illuminate the ideals to which we aspire in each interaction we undertake.
The mission of Cal Poly Pomona Student Health Services (SHS), in support of both the overall University mission and the academic mission, is to:
In recognition of Cal Poly Pomona's diverse student body, the SHS health team is committed to providing high quality, student-centered care and services which are responsive to our students' changing needs. Care SHS provides is convenient, confidential, readily accessible, and affordable. Quality of care is demonstrated through continuous accreditation of the Student Health Center by both the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and the California Medical Association.
A wide range of services are offered to students, including early treatment of illnesses and injuries; diagnostic and preventive care; and health promotion programs/outreach services. In addition, some limited services are provided to faculty, staff; campus program attendees and visitors.
Student Health Services is essential to the greater mission of Cal Poly Pomona. Through the presence and use of SHS services, students conserve and make more effective use of classroom and study time. Student expenditures related to health care are significantly reduced, SHS assists students in pursuing and achieving personal and academic goals in a safe and healthy campus learning environment.
Health Promotion's mission is to advance learning and knowledge, and use of health enhancing behaviors by linking theory and practice in all areas of health, and to prepare students for lifelong high quality life.
Help students achieve their objectives for attending Cal Poly. Use evidence-based health promotion and clinical strategies. Use those strategies to help students achieve their objectives. Help them adopt one or more health enhancing behaviors, and support this change.
