Temporary, hourly, intermittent (on call) for a twelve month period
Working Hours: Monday - Friday, hours/shift assignments dependent upon operational needs

$12.63 - $18.95 per hour (Does not include benefits)

Facilities Management is responsible for the physical environment of the University. The Custodial Services Unit of the Facilities Management Department is responsible to clean, service and maintain custodial standards for state buildings and campus facilities. This position reports directly to a Lead Custodian for immediate daily supervision, both of whom will report directly to the Manager of Custodial Services. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide routine and non-routine custodial maintenance of campus facilities in an assigned building or portion thereof.
Duties include but not limited to: Dust and clean building fixtures including walls, blinds, mirrors, doors, hand rails; remove gum, tape, streaks, smudges, spills, fingerprints, marks and graffiti. Dust and clean building furniture such as bookcases, chairs, shelves, tables, trash cans; clean desks and chairs in classrooms; clean whiteboards, chalkboards, erasers and trays. Remove carpet stains, clean mats and rugs; dust mop, clean carpets, sweep, vacuum, wet mop, scrub, strip, seal, wax, restore and burnish floors (stripping shoes to be worn when stripping or scrubbing floors). Maintain bulletin boards in a neat and orderly manner; cooperate in moving tables, chairs, and other furniture and equipment as well as in making minor building maintenance repairs and adjustments; remove broken furniture to loading docks; keep stairwells, hallways and entrances clear; clean elevators. Scrub and completely disinfect restrooms, locker rooms, shower rooms; clean and disinfect sinks, toilets, urinals, partition walls, floor drains, water fountains; stock and clean dispensers, order supplies; clean, stock, organize and maintain custodial cart, equipment and supplies. Empty trash; report work orders; change lights; notify lead of safety concerns and of equipment repair needs; participate in energy conservation and recycling program; lock and unlock entry doors; spray for insects. Keep simple records and prepare simple reports; assist in set up and preparation for conferences, lectures, and special events; perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position; ability to follow simple oral and written directions; ability to use and care for janitorial supplies and equipment; ability to observe and use safe working conditions. Must possess a valid California Driver's License and provide a current DMV Driving Record upon submission of application.
Desirable: Previous custodial experience preferably in a university or college environment.
