Jose Vadi E-Mail: JMVadi@CSUPomona.edu Professor, Political Science (Latin America; Comparative Politics; Ethnic Politics.) |
| Ph.D., University of Wisconsin, at Madison |
Background: I grew up in New York City (Manhattan) and did my undergraduate work at the College of the City of New York. I was an activist in the civil rights movement and my first work was as director of a poverty program. I also was a community organizer in New York's Harlem organizing low income housing tenants. As a participant in the historical March on Washington in August of 1963, I was privileged to have heard Dr. King's "I have a Dream" speech live. As a graduate student, I served as a teaching assistant where I first learned the teaching craft. In addition to teaching and political activism, I have a passion for fine art and have exhibited as both a pastel and watercolor artist. I have two children, Marissa who is a medical student at the University of California at San Francisco and Jose Antonio who is attending the University of California at Berkeley. My wife, Delfina (Delfy) Vadi is also a teacher.
I am interested in comparative politics with a specialty in Latin American Politics. Currently, I am working on a book on the subject of the political impacts of economic globalization on the state and on the formation of political oppositions. My recent interest at professional conferences has had to do with the impact of economic globalization on the state and the formation of political oppositions in Mexico, Argentina, and Venezuela.
I intend to continue with my art activity as both a pastel artist and a watercolorist. My current work is mostly portraiture in pastel focused on a series of portraits of persons of diverse ethnicities.I am doing pastel portraiture work and I plan to branch out into acrylic painting as this medium combines all of the advantages of oils and watercolors.
I have been playing the guitar since I was twelve years old and one of my interests is in learning classical guitar.
