Quoting the Standard:

Analysis, design, modification, installation and maintenance of software solutions including databases to meet information needs.

At Cal Poly Pomona:

This employee modifies existing software applications and database systems or creates new ones using an in-depth knowledge of engineering or programming techniques. May have a targeted assignment on a particular system, or may support a functional area with a variety of needs over time. Typically interacts often with subject-matter experts, who provide information to drive software systems design.

Level Comparison of Minimum Qualifications for Education/Experience

Education/ Experience	A bachelors level degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information systems, Engineering or a related field.	A bachelors level degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Systems, Engineering or a related field with relevant experience totaling two years full-time or the equivalent part-time.	A bachelors level degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Systems, Engineering or a related field with five years full-time relevant experience.
-OR-	Four years of relevant full-time experience. (Associate Degree does not substitute for experience in this classification.)	Eight years of relevant full-time experience. (Associate Degree does not substitute for experience in this classification.)	Twelve years of relevant full-time experience. (Associate Degree does not substitute for experience in this classification.)
