Landscape
Architecture
fourteenth session during the Fall 2006 academic
quarter. Participants in the 2006 Landscape Architecture Italy program will
again live and study at the Santa Chiara Study Center in Castiglion Fiorentino
about fifty miles southeast of Florence in the Tuscany region. The session is a
great opportunity to visit one of the oldest and culturally accomplished
cultures. The art, architecture, and landscapes of
The academic focus of
the session will again be the region surrounding
Castiglion
Fiorentino. We will spend part of the semester learning about the
environmental and social systems related to the
community. With this
comprehension, we will develop perceptual and
environmental strategies for the
design of the landscape surrounding the city.
Schedule
The twelve-week
academic program begins on September 1, 2006 and concludes on November 23, 2006.**
The weekly schedule will consists of studio and lectures M-TU-W. from 8 A.M. to 6P.M. with an hour break for lunch. Dinner
occurs each evening at 7:30 P.M.- 8:30 P.M.; we
normally devote the evenings to the painting class. Thursdays are relegated to field trips;
F-S-Su are open for
individual travel and study. Two three day field
trips, one to
other to the

Courses include
fifteen hours of academic study, These include senior design,,
senior seminar, history (the urban
landscape), Professional Practice, and
painting.
Graduate students enroll in LA 512, and are encouraged to enroll in
the 499 Painting class and the LA 423
Urban History course. All
Classes are
taught by Cal Poly landscape architecture
faculty.
An important
component in you travel to
valid visa for individuals not holding US
passports. Please begin the process
of acquiring a passport or visa
immediately. As we approach the summer season, the passport offices become
backlogged with applications, thereby making acquisition of the document a
problem latter in the summer. Passport forms may be acquired at post offices.

participants are encouraged to acquire as much

The cost for the
program consists of the following components:
Tuition for fifteen
units for the twelve week session(In-state

Room, Board, field
trips, language instruction, studios,
room cleaning, laundry, management.
Meals are not
included on field trips.)

Participants should
be aware that the budget does not include spending money.
Individuals should
allow an additional $1000.00 for such purposes. Individuals
cover the cost of transportation and hotels
during the Amalfi trip; some meals
are provided.
Deposits
As a way of securing
a place in the session a deposit of $100.00 is due by
April 1, 2006. The deposit is refundable and is applied to
the $6200.00
budget figure.
