Wireless Access: Windows XP without Aegis

Set up Your Wireless Connection

  1. Make sure your laptop or desktop wireless radio is on.


  2. Right click on the wireless icon located in the task bar (bottom right hand size of desktop).


  3. The available wireless networks will appear on the right hand side. Click on “Change advance settings” on the left column under “Related Tasks”.


  4. Click on the tab “Wireless Networks”.
    1. Make sure the option for “Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings” is checked.
    2. Under Preferred Networks, click on the Add button.


  5. On the Association tab of the Wireless network properties window, make sure the info is as follows:
    1. Network name (SSID) is:  CPP
    2. Network AuthenticationOpen
    3. Data encryptionWEP


  6. On the Authentication tab of the Wireless network properties window:
    1. Select for EAP TypeProtected EAP (PEAP)
    2. Click on the Properties button.
    3. Make sure the following options are unchecked:
      1. Authenticate as computer when computer information is unavailable".
      2. Authenticate as guest when user or computer information is unavailable".


  7. On the Protected EAP Properties Window:
    1. Uncheck the following option: “Validate server certificate”.
    2. SelectSecure password (EAP-MSCHAP-2)".
    3. Click on the configure button.


  8. On the EAP MSCHAPv2 Properties window:
    1. Uncheck the following option: “Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any)".
    2. Click the OK button.


  9. The newly created preferred network appears.  NOTE: Make sure user home network appears at the top of the list.
    1. Select the CPP profile.
    2. Click on the Move down button.
    3. Click on the button “View Wireless Networks".


  10. From the list of available networks:
    1. Select CPP.
    2. Click on the Connect button.
  11. In the taskbar (bottom right of the desktop), notice that the wireless network icon is attempting to make the connection.


  12. Notice the credential screen prompt, asking you for your BroncoName and Network password.

    Note: The network password is not the same as your BroncoPassword.

    Note: If you have other windows open, you might not be able to see the authentication screen.



  13. If the appropriate password was entered and no firewall software blocked your connection, then the Windows Wireless Manager will display the connected network.


  14. A balloon message in the taskbar will also confirm your connection.

    Note: You might not be able to connect if you have a firewall or some other type of protection for your operating system.
