Overview
Following these instructions will allow you to correctly set up your Dell 610 laptop to access Cal Poly Pomona’s wireless network.
To complete the setup process you must first create your Wireless Network Password (this password must be different from your BroncoPassword, which you use to access your university email).
Creating a Network Password
If you have already created your Wireless Network Password, proceed directly to the Wireless Setup Instructions below. If you have not created your Network Password or are unsure if you have, follow these steps:
- Visit this link: www.csupomona.edu/intranet/services/ .
- Click “User Identity Management Services”.
- Click "My Control Panel".

- Enter your BroncoName and BroncoPassword.

- Click “Account”.

- In the Change Network Password section:
- Enter a new network password.
- Repeat entry to ensure accuracy.
- Click “Change Network Password” to save your changes.

Wireless Setup Instructions
- There are two ways to open the wireless (Intel PROSet/Wireless) configuration area:
- You can double click on the wireless icon in the system tray in the bottom right corner of the screen.

- Or, you can open it from the Start Menu by choosing the following sequence:
“Start” > “All Programs” > “IntelPROset Wireless” > “IntelPROset Wireless” (this last click will be the program icon itself).

- The “Intel PROSet Wireless” configuration screen will open.
- Under Profiles click “Add.”
- On the “Create Wireless Profile” screen make sure that the “General Settings” window is open.
Note:
If the General Settings window is not open, you can select it from options in the top left of the screen.
- Enter a descriptive “Profile Name” of your choosing. For example, you could use “Cal Poly Wireless.”
- Enter “CPP” where it says “Wireless Network Name (SSID).”
Note:
You must enter “CPP” in order for your computer to recognize the university’s wireless network.
- Make sure that “Network (Infrastructure)” is selected under “Operating Mode.”
- Click “Next.”

- The next window that is opened should be titled “Security Settings."
Note:
If Security Settings window is not open, you can select it from options in the top left of the screen.
- On the Security Settings window:
- For “Data Encryption”, select “WEP” from the drop down menu.
- Place a check mark next to the “Enable 802.1x” box.
- For “Authentication Type”, select “LEAP" from the drop down menu.
Note: If “LEAP” is not available, select “TKIP".
- For “User Name”, enter your BroncoName.
- For “Password” and “Confirm Password”, enter your wireless network password.
- Click OK.

- Your Cal Poly Pomona wireless profile has now been added to your account. Your computer is now set to automatically connect itself if it detects that it is in the university’s wireless network coverage area.
- Click “Close” to end the wireless setup session.
