Combining SpamBayes with Spam Assassin
Spam Assassin is different from SpamBayes because it is installed at the campus network gateway and it serves as a filter – in effect, it prevents spam e-mails from reaching you in the first place. Spam Assassin is a useful tool, but it can only be used as a filter for Cal Poly Pomona e-mail addresses. If your Cal Poly Pomona address is forwarded to a mail client such as Microsoft Outlook it can be used in combination with SpamBayes.
To activate Spam Assassin simply follow these directions:
- Go to http://www.csupomona.edu/intranet/services/
- Select "Configure Your Account." Enter your login information. Once you are logged in, scroll to the bottom of the page and look for the following box:

- Place a check mark as shown above. If this box is already checked off it means that Spam Assassin has already been activated. If Spam Assassin is active and you find that you are still receiving an excessive amount of Spam, you can increase Spam Assassin's filtering by decreasing the spam "score." So, here's the rule of thumb: The lower the score, the higher the rate of filtering.
