Managing Email Spam

Client Configuration Guide: Outlook XP (PC)

  1. Make sure you have completed the basic setup of SpamAssassin
  2. Open the Outlook application
  3. From the "File" menu, select "New" and "Folder..."
  4. Give the folder a name (i.e. Spam)
  5. Select the location for the folder and click "OK"
  6. From the “Tools” menu, select “Rules Wizard”
  7. Select the “New" button
  8. Click "Start from a blank rule"
  9. Verify that "Check messages when they arrive" is highlighted
  10. Click "Next"
  11. Check the box for "with specific words in the message header"
  12. Under the "Rule description" area, click on "specific words"
  13. Type X-Spam-Flag: YES
  14. Click the "Add" button
  15. Click "Next"
  16. Check the box for "move it to the specified folder"
  17. Under the "Rule description" area, click on "specified" folder
  18. Select the folder you just created (i.e. Spam).
  19. Click "Next"
  20. Click "Next"
  21. Verify your settings
  22. Click "Finish"
  23. Click "OK".
