Please use your BroncoName and BroncoPassword to log in to BroncoDirect.
You use your BroncoName (the part of your Cal Poly Pomona e-mail address before the @csupomona.edu) and BroncoPassword to access your Cal Poly Pomona Exchange Email .
You also use your BroncoName and BroncoPassword to access Blackboard and WebCT.
You even use your BroncoName and BroncoPassword to access My Control Panel (this is where you can change your BroncoPassword, set your Cal Poly Pomona e-mail address to forward to a personal e-mail address, and make other e-mail-related changes).
But for some reason you had to use completely different login information—your BroncoNumber and associated password—whenever you want to access BroncoDirect.
Well, not any more!
Beginning on March 1, 2006, you must log in using your BroncoName and BroncoPassword like you use for all of the other aforementioned services.
Best of all, there is nothing you need to configure or activate to start using your BroncoName and BroncoPassword; everything is already set up for you through BroncoDirect and is ready for you to use.
LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) is a software protocol which enables users to locate informational resources in a network, whether on the public Internet or on a corporate intranet, such as is the case at Cal Poly Pomona. LDAP is "lightweight" because it involves smaller and more streamlined amounts of code than its predecessor DAP (Directory Access Protocol). Thereby, LDAP is easier and faster to implement in a network setting.
In terms of how LDAP works with BroncoDirect at Cal Poly Pomona, the explanation is simple: LDAP authentication is used to enable access to BroncoDirect by authorized users—Cal Poly Pomona students, applicants, faculty and staff—and to prohibit access by unauthorized users.
To log in to BroncoDirect, members of the Cal Poly Pomona community identify themselves via LDAP authentication by entering their BroncoName and BroncoPassword, as this is the protocol for accessing the BroncoDirect informational directory.
As noted above, LDAP authentication is an addition to BroncoDirect’s current authentication process, and therefore it is a service enhancement, not a service change—so BroncoDirect will still be accessible using your BroncoNumber and associated password, if that’s how you would prefer to continue identifying yourself.
While current Cal Poly Pomona students, faculty and staff will be able to choose between the two login methods described above, beginning October 1, 2005, applicants to Cal Poly Pomona and newly-admitted students will be able to access BroncoDirect using only the LDAP authentication process.
When prospective students apply to Cal Poly Pomona they will be sent instructions on how to access BroncoDirect, which serves as an information repository for student alerts sent out to applicants and newly-admitted students by Cal Poly Pomona’s Admissions Office.
By following these instructions, Cal Poly Pomona applicants will be able to complete a mandatory identity verification process—wherein they will be asked to provide correct responses to a series of questions designed to confirm the applicant’s identity. Once this verification process is complete, applicants will be sent their Bronco Name and Bronco Password via e-mail and will be granted full access to BroncoDirect.
