EPT
TEST - The EPT test is an English test given by the CSU to
determine whether you need to take remedial English. All students must
take the EPT test unless you have proof of one of the following:
- a score
of 550 or above on the verbal section of the recentered College Board
SAT I: Reasoning Test taken April 1995 or after
- a score
of 680 or above on the recentered and adjusted College Board SAT II
Writing Test taken May 1998 or after
- a score
of 24 or above on the enhanced ACT English Test taken October 1989
or later
- a score
of 3, 4 or 5 on either the Language and Composition or Literature
and Composition examination of the College Board Advanced Placement
Program
- completion
and transfer to the CSU of a college course that satisfies the requirement
in English Composition, provided such a course was completed with
a grade of C or better
ELM
TEST - The ELM test is a math test given by the CSU to determine
whether you need to take remedial math. All students must take the ELM
test unless you have proof of one of the following:
- A score of 550 or higher on the Mathematics section
of the SAT or SAT I
- A score
of 23 or higher in the Mathematics section ACT (or a 24 if taken
before October 1989)
- A score of 550 or higher on the
Mathematics Test Level I, II, or IIC of the Achievement Test of
the SAT
- A score or 550 or highter on of the Mathematics Test Level
I, II, or IIC of the SATII/Subjet Test (first offered in January
1994)
- A score of 3 or higher on the Calculus AB or BC examination
of the Advanced Placemnt Test
- A score of 3 or higher on the Statistics
examination of the Advanced Placemnt Test
- Approved G. E. Math class
(C or better) successfully completed prior to the first quarter
of enrollment at Cal Poly Pomona
- You
must have your EPT and ELM test results before you can register for
classes. Registration materials and information can be obtained from

The sooner you take the EPT and ELM the sooner you will be able to preregister
for classes.

MDPT TEST-
The MDPT test is a PLACEMENT math test given by Cal Poly Pomona that
determines whether you are eligible to take Math 114 - the first course
in the Calculus Sequence. All ECE students must take the MDPT test unless
you have proof of one of the following:
A score
of 3, 4 or 5 on the AP Calculus AB or BC tests
completion and transfer to the CSU of a college course with a grade
of C or better that is equivalent to Math 114 - the first quarter of
calculus
If you don't pass the MDPT you will have to go back and take algebra
and/or trigonometry classes that won't count towards your ECE degree.
So it's extremely important that you study for and come prepared to
take this test. See the Cal Poly Pomona Math Department for more information
about the MDPT including sample problems. Note that a more extensive
set of sample problems is available from the Learning Resource Center.
