On September 1, 1997 the ARCHES
Project officially started at Cal Poly Pomona! ARCHES,
an acronym for "Achievement, Retention & Commitment to Higher
Education Success," is a newly funded grant project exclusively
for students with disabilities at Cal Poly Pomona.
Funded through the U.S.
Department of Education TRIO Division, ARCHES
was written in response to Cal Poly Pomona's growing need to provide
more comprehensive services to its disabled student population.
ARCHES
will provide enhanced services above and beyond the disability
accommodations currently provided through the Office of Disabled
Student Services (DSS).
Students selected to participate
with ARCHES
will take part in weekly discussion groups which will allow them to
discuss and explore topics and issues effecting persons with
disabilities in the university and work environments.
ARCHES offers 150 students with disabilities a
wide-range of enhanced services including:
Academic
Advising
Study Skills Development
Specialized Tutorials
Weekly Discussion Groups
Priority Disabilities Assessment
Financial
Aid and Scholarship Assistance
Participation in ARCHES
is limited to 150 Cal Poly Pomona students each year. Therefore,
in order to have full consideration as a possible ARCHES
participant, you should
schedule an interview with the ARCHES
staff and pick up an application as soon as possible. Interviews
may be scheduled by visiting the ARCHES
office, in building 1 room 214, or by contacting the office by phone
at (909) 869-2386. Applications are available in the ARCHES
or DSS offices.
The ARCHES
staff is committed to the continued academic success of students with
disabilities at Cal Poly Pomona! If you have any questions or
