 Welcome to Development Anthropology ANT 352. This course will be available in Fall, 2007. It will meet MWF at 10:30-11:35 in 5:143. The web site will be updated over the summer. Fall Quarter starts on Sept. 20th. We will meet on Sept. 21st for the first class.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Please join us in a dialogue with Dr. Mira Dakin Sadgopal on Thursday, November 8 at 3:30-5:00 p.m. in the Heritage Conference Room, CLA Building 8th Floor. Dr. Sadgopal will speak on "From Violence Against Women to Affirming Life: A View of 'Women and Health' in India. This will be followed by Q &A. and dialogue.

From African Rhythms to Latin Jazz
Raul Fernandez, Professor of Social Sciences UC-Irvine, will discuss his research on the Afro-Cuban music as a form of resistance and cultural expression. Professor Fernández is the author of From African Rhythms to Latin Jazz (UC Press, 2007), Latin Jazz: The Perfect Combination (Chronicle Books, 2002). He curated the Smithsonian Institute’s exhibit Latin Jazz.

ETHNIC NIGHT INVITATION. You are invited to a party sponsored by the GAP Clubs on Nov. 16th.

Guest speakers are scheduled for Nov. 26th (Tyler Kinsey on Thailand), Nov. 2nd (Father Bosco on Rwanda project), and Nov. 7th (Rick Gregory on Batwa project).

One of the things we will talk about is climate change and how it is related to development.
