One of the catalysts in Cal Poly Pomona's 2000-01 NCAA Division II championship run, Tasha Burnett begins her third season as a Bronco assistant coach. Burnett's major role will be recruiting.
Burnett had a sensational two-year career for the Broncos and played a major role in the first of two consecutive national championships. She tied an NCAA record by hitting all 11 of her field-goal attempts in a national quarterfinal victory over Pace University . She earned second-team All-CCAA honors and made the All-Elite Eight Tournament team.
She was also the Athlete of the Year at Lynwood High School , where she also competed in track and field and finished second in the state in the triple jump. She went on to Los Angeles Harbor College , where she was a Kodak All-American in 1994 while leading her team to a California Junior College State championship.
After leaving L.A. Harbor College , she passed up several NCAA Division I scholarships to stay home and take care of her family. During that time, she served as a coach at Inglewood High School for four seasons. Burnett then resumed her playing career with Cal Poly Pomona in 1999.
She averaged 12.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per game in her first season with the Broncos while appearing in 25 games. She injured her knee against Chico State and underwent surgery, but returned in time for the NCAA playoffs.
As a senior, she averaged 13.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per game and led the team in assists.
Burnett graduated from Cal Poly Pomona in 2003 with a degree in kinesiology and is currently pursuing a Master's degree in education. She resides in Compton .
