Read more on our learning objectives....... Curricula in ChemistryThe Chemistry Department offers a flexible program of studies designed to prepare students for careers in private industry and government or for highly diverse graduate study. The degree, certified by the American Chemical Society, has four possible options (Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Chemical Sciences, and Molecular Modeling and Simulation) allowing students to tailor their curriculum choices to best fit their career goals. In keeping with the Department's "hands-on" emphasis on learning to prepare students for real-world jobs, all Chemistry majors are required to do a Senior Project and are encouraged to participate in the Co-OP program to prepare to explore their career options and prepare to enter the work-force. The SAACS chapter at Cal Poly Pomona is an active club that offers academic as well as social activities for its almost 50 members. Weekly meetings often include guest speakers from industry as well as job placement agencies and career centers. Teaching and Learning ResourcesThe Department posts links to a wide range of teaching and learning resources for Chemistry students and instructors. See here..... Seminars in ChemistryThe department sponsers a seminar series featuring distinguished scientists covering a wide array of specialties in chemistry. Spring 2007 Seminar Schedule Awards in ChemistryDr. Barbara Burke has landed a large NSF grant to promote student success in science. Promising science students with financial need will receive much-needed help through a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant of $584,197 to Cal Poly Pomona. |
