I teach Freshman Chemistry, Biochemistry, Clinical Chemistry, and Molecular Biology. I am also the Graduate Advisor/Coordinator of the Chemistry Graduate Program.
tennis, hiking, cross-country skiing, beach activities (body surfing and boogie boarding), snorkeling, and scuba.
Travel: Hawaii (Kauai is my favorite), Caribbean, Baja. I want to go to: more Carribean, South Pacific.
Hobbies: reading science fiction, espionage, factual history and historical fiction. I also enjoy gardening and aquaria.
Professional Interests:
I would like to write a Survey of Biochemistry book which reflects my biases about fundamental biomolecules and structure/function relationships.
My senior project students and graduate students are currently using Random Primer PCR and RFLP mapping to analyze mitochondrial and nuclear DNA.
I am interested in developing funding for graduate research associateships and funding for chemistry major academic workshops.
