Only about two-thirds of the cost of a Cal Poly Pomona education is paid by the CSU allotment from the state general fund and by student fees. The remainder must be raised from other sources. Because of its strong emphasis on laboratories, and the minimal state funding available for laboratory maintenance and development, engineering is especially dependant on outside support.
Fortunately, civil engineering employers, alumni, and others have been very generous in helping us meet this shortfall, thus helping us maintain and build the program.:

Significant donations are recognized on the Civil Engineering Partners in Education donor wall, which is located in the hallway near the civil engineering department office. This donor wall helps students and others recognize the sources of external support.
We are currently in the second year of a three-year faculty-alumni challenge. In 2005, four of our current and emeritus faculty pledged to match alumni contributions to the civil engineering program up to $11,000. Our alumni came through with more then $18,000!
We are currently raising funds for a new sustainable land development laboratory This laboratory will support the various aspects of land development engineering, and will provide a forum for instruction in sustainable design practices.
