I am pleased and proud to be one of the newest members of the faculty at Cal Poly Pomona. I began as Chair of the Biological Sciences Department in January of 2007 after spending more than 22 years on the faculty at Michigan State University. For me, visiting the Cal Poly Campus for the time in the Spring of 2006, it was love at first sight. I was captivated by the beautiful rolling hills of the campus with the San Gabriel Mountains visible in the background and by the Voorhis reserve, the BioTrek facilities and, most of all, the friendly, earnest, diverse and energetic students in the foreground.

If you are interested in study within the biological sciences at the undergraduate or Master’s Degree level, let me tell you that the “learn by doing” motto has no better home than Cal Poly Pomona. Our courses include a high number of quality laboratory and field experiences, the class sizes are relatively small allowing for individualized attention, and there are many special opportunities for undergraduate and Master’s level research, internships, clubs and service learning activities. We continually assess these programs with input from alumni and industry as our world class faculty and staff are dedicated to providing the best possible training for our students. It is no surprise that many of our alumni have gone on to the highest levels of achievement in private industry and academia and that so many of our alumni hold key positions within local, state and federal agencies. If you haven’t visited our campus and seen our facilities yet, please explore our departmental website and visit the campus in person. I am confident that you, too, will want to become a Bronco.
