Throughout
the years of success in intercollegiate athletics at Cal Poly
Pomona, there has been one constant among the administrative
staff: Chris Ward. With more than 25 years experience at the
university, 21 of them with athletics, Ward has been a major
part of the storied tradition of Bronco Athletics.
Ward is
continuing to evolve in her career since her first year in
1981 and she has increased responsiblities this year. She
has added the duties of the Associate Interim Director of
Athletics to her already impressive resume. In addition to
being second in command, Ward also retains her role as the
department's Senior Women's Administrator. Her main responsibility
will be to oversee the interest of women's athletics.
Along
with her duty as the Associate Interim Director and the Senior
Women's Administrator, Ward also remains the Business Manager
and will handle all financial matters for the department,
which includes five funding sources. She is also involved
with game management of home athletic contests overseeing
ticket sales and concessions.
Ward first
worked for Cal Poly Pomona from 1970-76 with the office of
Procurement. After moving out of the area for five years,
she was hired as the administrative assistant for Bronco football
under then-head coach Roman Gabriel.
In 1996,
Ward earned a bachelor's degree in Humanities. While a student
and working full-time with athletics, she served three years
on Staff Council.
Ward and
her husband Pat, reside in La Verne. Their oldest son, Rick,
is the head football coach at Baldwin Park High School. Pat
is an assistant coach on Rick's staff. Their youngest son,
Matt, concluded his playing career at the University of Utah
and is now pursuing his teaching credential at Cal Poly Pomona.
He is also an assistant coach at Baldwin Park.
