Martinez
Eligibility and Compliance Officer
|
If
the pieces to the puzzle are to be put into proper place that
results in academic and athletic success, then it all starts
with Irene Martinez, the Department of Athletics Administrative
Assistant and Analyst.
In her
third year, Martinez takes the lead in assuring that prospective
student-athletes will make the grade for admission to Cal
Poly Pomona and will help advise those students on what curriculum
needs to be completed. She will also work with the faculty
athletic representative in evaluating and maintaining student-athlete
eligibility while enrolled at the university.
Besides
being an analyst, Martinez will assist the Director of Athletics
in all administrative needs as well as be the chief coordinator
of NCAA and university reporting.
Martinez
has been associated with Cal Poly Pomona since 1972 when she
was an active student as a Business Law major. In 1975, she
took her first position on campus in the Admissions Office
in 1975 where she remained for 18 years. From 1993-99, she
worked in the Registrar's Office as an evaluator working closely
with the College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences and
Intercollegiate Athletics.
In 1994,
Martinez graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a bachelor's
in Liberal Studies and two minors: Women Studies and Hispanic
Studies. She has completed work towards a master's in Public
Administration at the University of La Verne.
She and
her husband Raul, have been married for 26 years and have
three sons and two grandchildren. They have resided in Alta
Loma for 23 years. Both Irene and Raul are active supporters
of Cal Poly Pomona athletic events and volunteer services
to Cal Poly Associates fundraising events.
