Glenn
Shenker
Interim Director of Athletics
|
Glenn
Shenker, who has been with Cal Poly Pomona for 23 years, became
the interim Director of Athletics on July 15 and will lead
the Broncos through what figures to be an exciting –
and busy – time. Cal Poly Pomona will serve as the host
for the 2003 NCAA Division II West Region Cross Country Championships
and the 2004 NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships.
A veteran of 23 years at Cal Poly Pomona, including 19 in
Athletics, Shenker will bring his experience and dedication
to one of the top Division II programs in the country. Shenker
continues the tradition of strong leadership in the department,
which looks to build upon its many years of success. Cal Poly
Pomona has won 13 national championships, including back-to-back
women’s basketball titles in 2001 and 2002. The Broncos
captured the regional championship in men’s basketball,
a CCAA title in women’s tennis and earned 37 All-CCAA
honors in 2002-03. That total is the most for the Broncos
since the CCAA expanded in 1998.
Shenker returned to Athletics in 2002 as the Associate Athletic
Director. In that role, he had direct supervision of academic
support services for student-athletes, the athletic training
program and two sports management interns. He was also responsible
for overseeing all marketing and promotion efforts and sports
camps and worked closely on budgeting issues, fund-raising
projects and special events.
Before returning to Athletics, Shenker worked in the Office
of the Vice-President of Student Affairs, where he chaired
BroncoFest, the University’s Open House and Spring Festival.
Shenker began his career in Athletics in 1980 as an event
management intern. One year later, he became a full-time administrative
assistant. In 1990, he was promoted to Director of Development
for the athletic department, a position he held for eight
years before moving on to Student Affairs.
In his tenure at Cal Poly Pomona, Shenker has worked effectively
in developing relationships and collarborations between academic
and non-academic units as well as developing community relations.
He also has an excellent understanding of the university structure
and looks forward to using his knowledge and experience to
lead the Bronco Athletic program.
Shenker received his Bachelor’s of Science in Athletic
Administration from St. Thomas University in Miami, Fla. He
later earned his Master’s of Science in kinesiology
and health promotion from Cal Poly Pomona.
