Assistant to the Director of Athletics
|
Sonia
Campos joined the Athletics Department staff in September
2003. She has served Cal Poly Pomona’s students, staff,
alumni and local residents for more than ten years.
As the Administrative Support Coordinator for the department,
Campos provides assistance to the Director of Athletics while
working extensively with student-athletes, department staff,
boosters, and the Athletic Board. She is responsible for hiring,
scheduling and supervising student assistants. Campos also
helps to develop students as paraprofessionals (one of her
most cherished responsibilities).
Committed to the Student Affairs’ themes of integrity,
interconnectedness, passion, quality, richness of diversity,
and student-centered philosophy, Campos treats every student
as a member of her own family.
She began her tenure at Cal Poly Pomona as an on-call dispatcher
at the university Police Department, handling 911 calls from
students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
Later, as the Admissions and Outreach Office’s International
and Graduate Admissions Analyst, Campos provided applicants
with current international and university policies and procedures.
She was soon promoted to Front Office Coordinator, where she
supervised and led the Admissions’ staff in processing
transcripts, applications and answering student and parent
questions.
Through her service as a member of the Student Affairs Assessment
Quality Team, and various university-wide committees, Campos
has successfully aided the Division of Student Affairs in
the development of curricular and co-curricular experiences
for all Cal Poly Pomona students.
She resides in Walnut with her husband of thirty years, Gabriel.
Her eldest daughter, Windy, a graduate of San Diego State
University, is a Credential Counselor at Cal Poly Pomona.
Desiree, an alumna of the University of Southern California,
is the Director of USC's Topping Fund scholarship program.
Campos’ eldest son Alex is a Sergeant in the United
States Marine Corps and is currently serving in Iraq. Her
youngest, Gabriel III, is a graduate of the University of
La Verne. She is also a grandmother of two, Justin and Daniel.
