Participation
and Academics
Cal
Poly Pomona is a full-time member of the National Collegiate
Athletic Association (NCAA) and the California Collegiate
Athletic Association (CCAA). As a member of the NCAA and CCAA,
Cal Poly Pomona enforces the policies and guidelines set forth
by each of the two associations.
Freshman
eligibility is determined by the NCAA Clearinghouse with set
criteria which includes a minimum SAT score of 820 or an ACT
score of 17 (composite) or 68 (sum score) as well as successful
completion of 13 core curriculum requirements with C or better.
In order
for a student to transfer to Cal Poly Pomona, he/she must
have completed 56 semester or 84 quarter units including 30
semester units (45 quarter units) of general education (college
level): English Composition, Quantitative Reasoning (i.e.
math), Critical Thinking and Speech Communication with minimal
grades of "C" and a GPA of 2.0. When transferring
from a four-year institution, the previous institution must
provide a written release to Cal Poly Pomona before the student-athlete
can participate.
Eligibility
for competition in intercollegiate athletics requires that
a student-athlete maintain a GPA of 2.0 and complete 36 units
of work towards a specified major prior to the beginning of
the next competitive season. In particular, prior written
authorization from the faculty athletic representative (FAR)
is required for all student-athletes who wish to take courses
for academic credit at any time at institutions other than
Cal Poly Pomona. This is especially true if the credit is
required to become or remain eligible for athletic competition.
To support academic efforts, student-athletes are afforded
an opportunity to participate in study halls, attend academic
workships, individual counseling and use tutors.
