Cal Poly Pomona

Students

Check out what current students have to say about the experience of being at Cal Poly Pomona College of Agriculture. Even though many students work and live off campus, we're a very special community. We support each other, celebrate our successes, and somehow make time for club, group, and community outreach projects.

Animal Science

Senior

"One day I would like to be able to own my very own practice"

As a pre-vet major, Ruth has chosen a challenging educational path.  She is also getting great hands-on experience as the College of Agriculture’s Animal Care Tech.  Oh yeah, and she works at the Arabian Horse Center, is the Ag council Vice President and is an executive board member of the Pre-Vet Club.  Wow!  What does she see herself doing after graduation?  “One day I would like to be able to own my very own practice and do community education about animal husbandry along with housing an outreach program for animal therapy needs.”

Plant Science

Senior

Getting dirty is not an issue with hydroponics.  Anna knows this first hand, literally!  In addition to being a full time student, she works in the new AGRIscapes greenhouse caring for lettuce exclusively grown in fortified water, no soil.  In addition to caring for the existing plants, she has begun germinating a crop for her senior project.  She is also a member of the Los Robles Club and in her spare time enjoys cooking.  Anna is looking forward to using her hands-on skills out in the real world when she graduates next year.

Animal Science

Senior

Being around animals has been both enriching and fun for Danielle.  She is a live-in student assistant at the Sheep and Swine Unit where caring for the animals and get’in dirty comes with the territory.  Some of her responsibilities include feeding the animals, treating their ailments, and assisting them when they go into labor. “This has truly been a unique experience for me coming from the suburbs, one that has vastly expanded my knowledge on animal care”.  Danielle is also involved in Ag Council, the Pre-Vet club, Gamma Sigma Delta, and Golden Key Honor Society.  From 2005-2007 she had the opportunity to talk about our programs to high school students as an Ag Ambassador.

Apparel Merchandising and Management

Senior

Christine stays quite busy as the President of the Apparel Merchandising and Management Association, a Phi Upsilon Omicron member, and a Golden Key International Honor Society member.  If this isn’t enough, she also works as a teacher’s assistant and oversees the AM2 line of clothing in the Farm Store. Christine is a transfer student from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.  She came here as a freshman to pursue an education in fashion.

Agronomy

Junior

Many classes at Cal Poly Pomona have given Sarah a great deal of exposure to the horticulture world.  “In hydroponics I grew two crops of lettuce and Asian vegetables this quarter.  I did soil testing labs in soil science to test for pH and salts in the soil.  In my greenhouse management class I visited a greenhouse every week.”  Sarah is also involved in the Los Rancheros and Los Robles Clubs.  If that’s not enough, she also finds time to work at the Farm Store!  This is one busy person.
