Admissions Requirements
 
All freshmen applicants must complete the following 15-unit comprehensive pattern of college preparatory subject requirements with a "C" or better:
 
  • English, 4 years
  • Mathematics, 3 years: algebra, geometry and intermediate algebra (all students are encouraged to continue taking mathematics through the high school senior year)
  • Social Science, 2 years including U.S. history or U.S. history and government
  • Science, 2 years with a laboratory (one biological and one physical)
  • Foreign Language, 2 years of the same language (subject to waiver for applicants demonstrating equivalent competence)
  • Visual and Performing Arts, 1 year: art, dance, theatre/drama, or music
  • Elective, 1 year selected from any of the above subject areas.

In addition, your qualification for admission is based on a combination of your grades and your scores on either the American College Test (ACT) or the Scholarship Aptitude Test (SAT). Students in the top third of their high school class have excellent potential to succeed at our university.

Eligibility Index:

SAT I Scores: (your GPA)* x 800 + your SAT I Total 
  ACT Scores: (your GPA)* x 200 + (10 x ACT Comp)
*Exclude 9th grade, PE, and ROTC
   
  • up to eight semesters of honors courses taken in the last two years of high school will be granted additional points (an A in an honors course will receive a total of 5 points; B, 4 points; and C, 3 points)
  • California residents must have a minimum index of 2900 using SAT I scores or 694 using ACT scores
  • California nonresidents must have a minimum index of 3502 using SAT I scores or 842 using ACT scores

College Board Advanced Placement (AP) Examination Credit:  Cal Poly Pomona grants credit toward its undergraduate degrees for successful completion of examinations of the Advanced Placement Program of the College Board.  Students who present scores of three or better will be granted up to six semester units (nine quarter units) of college credit1.  For specific information on Advanced Placement credit, contact the Office of Academic Programs, Building 98-T7-8, or the Degree Progress and Evaluation Services, Registrar's Office, Building 98, Room 2-20.

All undergraduate students must complete testing requirements unless exempt.

1Scores must be four or better for Biology, Computer Science, Economics and Physics.
